Ireland’s gardens, estates and coastal landscapes
Ireland is one of Europe’s most atmospheric garden destinations: green, mild, romantic and strongly shaped by water, woodland, coastal weather and private garden-making. Its gardens often feel more intimate and less formal than the great continental villa gardens, with lush planting, mossy woodland, old trees, rhododendrons, tree ferns, walled gardens and sudden views to mountain, river or sea.
This future GardenTours.com departure is being prepared as a small-group journey through some of Ireland’s most rewarding gardens and landscapes. The tour is expected to include a mix of historic estates, private gardens, botanical collections and coastal or island gardens, with a focus on planting, setting and the distinctive character of Irish horticulture.
Expected highlights may include Powerscourt, Blarney Castle, Bantry House, Garinish Island / Ilnacullin, Derreen Gardens, Fota Arboretum, Mount Usher, Hunting Brook, June Blake’s Garden and the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin.
The journey will be designed for garden lovers who want to experience Ireland through its gardens rather than as a general sightseeing tour. The emphasis will be on plants, private gardens, designed landscapes, mild-climate planting and the relationship between garden and place.
Those on the priority list will receive first notice when the departure is released.
