Tour overview

The gardens and flora of the Cape

The Western Cape is one of the richest plant regions on earth. The Cape Floral Kingdom — the smallest of the world’s floral kingdoms — holds thousands of species found nowhere else, from proteas and ericas to restios and bulbs, many of which have become familiar in gardens around the world.

This future GardenTours.com departure is being planned around Cape Town and the Western Cape: Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden on the slopes of Table Mountain, the gardens of Cape Town, the historic estates and contemporary gardens of the Cape Winelands, and the fynbos landscapes of the Cape peninsula.

We are planning the tour for the southern spring, when the West Coast wildflowers can carpet the land in colour, so that the journey brings together great gardens and the native flora that has inspired them.

The itinerary is in preparation. Those on the priority list will be the first to receive the dates, prices and full itinerary when the departure is released.

The gardens we expect to visit

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden

One of the world’s great botanical gardens, devoted to South Africa’s indigenous flora and set against the eastern slopes of Table Mountain.

Gardens of the Cape Winelands

Historic estates and contemporary gardens among the vineyards and mountains of the Winelands.

Fynbos of the Cape peninsula

The distinctive native vegetation of the Cape — proteas, ericas, restios and bulbs — seen in its natural setting.

West Coast spring flowers

In a good season, the West Coast and its hinterland are covered with daisies and other annuals and bulbs in flower.
